Psychedelic journeys & guidance

A journey into what lives deeper within you.

Sometimes you can feel that something in your life wants to move. A psychedelic journey can bring you beyond familiar thinking, into a layer where body, emotion, memory, imagery and inner knowing come together.

The invitation

Not as a quick fix. As a meeting with what wants to become visible.

Perhaps you keep running into the same patterns. Perhaps there is a longing for more freedom, connection, direction or aliveness. Or perhaps nothing is clearly wrong, but you feel a pull or curiosity toward what lives beneath the surface.

A psychedelic journey is not an escape from your life. It can be a way to meet what is difficult to reach in ordinary consciousness.

At Hartenkoning we guide individual psychedelic journeys, three-day plant medicine retreats and integration processes.

Explore the forms

How we work

The ceremony never stands alone.

Preparation, the journey itself and integration form one continuous process.

A deep psychedelic experience can open a great deal. You may see images, meet emotions, experience bodily sensations, encounter memories or suddenly understand something your ordinary thinking could not reach.

For us, the most important question is not only: What did you experience?

At least as important is: What does this experience show you about the way you live?

What wants to be felt or acknowledged? Where might you still be holding yourself back? Which old patterns do you carry? And what does that ask of the way you love, work, set boundaries, make choices and take your place?

Preparing, journeying and integrating.

A journey begins before any psychedelic substance is involved and does not end when the effects wear off.

Preparing

Listening to what brings you here

Beforehand we take time to get to know you. We explore your longing, question, health, medication, substance use and possible contraindications. Sometimes a clear intention helps. Sometimes a question, a longing or a pull is enough.

Journeying

Staying present with what unfolds

During the journey you do not have to go anywhere. The invitation is to loosen the usual control and meet what presents itself. We remain present to offer holding when you need it.

Integrating

Returning to ordinary life

The meaning of an experience may come closer only days or weeks later. We look at body, symbolism, archetypal images, systemic patterns and your own inner knowing. Not to impose one explanation, but to explore what this wants to mean in your life.

Our guidance

Warm, careful and direct when that helps.

We do not believe someone else can tell you what your journey means. An image can have multiple layers. A bodily experience can touch something old. An encounter during a journey may be personal, systemic, symbolic or something that cannot be explained easily.

Our guidance brings together body-oriented and systemic work with psychology, symbolism, archetypal imagery and spirituality. We work with what can be understood and with what may remain mysterious for a while.

Always with the question of how your experience can move back into ordinary life.

Individual journey, retreat or integration guidance.

The fitting form depends on your question, experience, health, timing and process. We always explore this first in a personal intake conversation.

Individual

Individual psychedelic journey

Sometimes a process asks for full individual attention. An extensive intake and screening take place beforehand. On the day itself we guide you through the full journey and take time afterwards to land.

Retreat

Three-day plant medicine retreat

Two guided inner journeys, three days and one continuous process in a small group of up to 10 participants. The strength lies not only in the journeys, but also in the space between them.

Integration

Integration guidance

If you have had a psychedelic experience elsewhere that is still working through you, you are welcome here too. We explore what happened, what still asks for attention and how the experience can find a place in daily life.

Frequently asked questions.

A psychedelic journey asks for care. Below are answers to questions that often arise beforehand.

Is a psychedelic journey suitable if I have never done this before?

Yes. Experience with psychedelics, meditation or personal development is not required.

A personal intake always takes place beforehand. We get to know you, discuss what brings you to this work and create space for questions or doubts.

How do I know whether a psychedelic journey is right for me?

You do not have to be stuck or have a major problem that needs solving. Some people come because they keep meeting the same patterns. Others are in a transition or long for more connection, freedom, direction or aliveness.

During the intake we explore both your longing and whether a psychedelic journey is suitable at this moment.

Is there a screening beforehand?

Yes. Every participant goes through a personal intake and screening. We discuss physical and mental health, medical history, medication, supplements and substance use.

The screening is not a formality. It is an essential part of our care.

Can I participate if I use medication?

That depends on the medication and the medicine being worked with. Some medicines, supplements and substances can have relevant interactions with psychedelics.

Never stop, reduce or change prescribed medication on your own initiative in order to participate. Always discuss changes with the qualified healthcare professional responsible for your treatment.

Are there contraindications?

Yes. Psychedelic journeys are not suitable for everyone. Certain physical conditions, psychological or psychiatric vulnerabilities, medication and substance use may be reasons not to participate or to seek additional advice first.

Is a psychedelic journey safe?

A powerful psychedelic experience is not without risk. We focus on reducing risk as much as possible through careful screening and preparation, a fitting setting, experienced guidance during the full journey and attention for integration afterwards.

What happens if I become afraid or overwhelmed during a journey?

Difficult or fearful moments can be part of a psychedelic experience. We remain present throughout the journey and can support you through presence, grounding, reassurance and helping you reconnect with your body and surroundings.

Do I have to share my experiences with others?

No. During a retreat we invite participants to share and reflect together, because being seen and heard can support integration. But you never have to share anything you would rather keep to yourself.

What if I decide during the retreat that I do not want to participate in a journey?

Your boundaries remain yours. Participation in a retreat does not mean you lose the right to say no, slow down or say that something does not feel right.

How large are the groups?

Our three-day retreats have a maximum of 10 participants. This creates connection and a shared holding field while leaving enough room for individual attention and support.

Can I come to a retreat on my own?

Absolutely. Many participants come without knowing anyone. On the first day we take time to arrive together and meet each other.

What happens after the retreat?

On the final morning integration is central, and every participant has an individual closing conversation with one of the facilitators.

Afterwards you receive a weekly integration email for seven weeks, with questions, reflections and exercises. During this period you can also reach us by phone or WhatsApp when difficult material arises or when you have questions about your process.

Can I come to Hartenkoning if I had my psychedelic journey somewhere else?

Yes. Integration guidance is also open to people who had their psychedelic experience elsewhere. We begin with what is still alive now and explore what wants to be seen, understood, felt or integrated.

What should I bring to a retreat?

You do not need much. Bring comfortable clothing, personal toiletries, bedding and towels. Those who prefer to travel light can rent a bedding set on location for €22 and a towel set for €12.

How do I reach the retreat centre?

Our location is central in the Netherlands, near Gorinchem. From Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Eindhoven it is usually about an hour by car. Travel by train and bus is also possible.

To protect the privacy of the retreat centre, we do not publish the exact address online. After registration you receive detailed travel information.

Life as integration

Transformation is not about escaping ordinary life.

It is about returning to it more fully. In the end, it is not about how special the experience was, but whether what you met may slowly become visible in how you live, love, work, choose and take your place.
